Before i go on with this mixburn post, i'm just gonna say that i'm not gonna post any more mixes, unless they're done for some special reason. So maybe if they're with some original beats, or made especially for the blog, or something like that, they're probably not gonna go up. Basically it's just cause i'm getting sent way too many mixes in the mail. It's not that there aren't good ones, just i don't have the time to go thru them all, really. So if you send me them and don't get a reply or a post, i don't mean any disrespect. Anyway, it seems there's tons of other blogs posting mixes, and pleanty of places for them to be spread.
Anyway, enuf of that, and onto the Mixburn series. If you haven't checked it already, we're up to volume 3, and they're going well. Each mix is getting thousands of downloads too, so i'm glad you all dig them. Click the mixburn tag to see some more of the posts, otherwise there are links in the side bar.
So Vol. 3 comes from the man behind Yes Diggity (hit it up for some dope street wear, with cheap oz shipping), Young Steezy. I first met steezy thru the Favela Rock nights, back when they'd just moved outta loop. I remember him talking about just liking to play tracks to get people dancing. Hell, he still does that, yet it seems with an added special touch of class these days. He's into a diverse range of music, a big range of dirty south stuff, and mashed up hip hop jams, he's really into bmore, and i've seen him play some mad dancey sets too (came down to leaky holes once).
This mix ends up being a really smooth blend thru some dancehallish tunes, some bmore and some hip hop, mixed with some other stuff. I like the way it seems to flow though. There are tunes that just sit really nicely next to each other. Anyway, Steezy has some nice words on the mix, enjoy...
DISCLAIMER: This mix contains no blog house,
Ok with that out of the way, here's the story behind the mix:
Before I started rocking parties for Opulent, my very first DJ gig was actually at Uber Lingua (still running - Thursday nights at St Jeromes), which also happened to be my weekly hangout at the time. Resident selectors - BP (Uber Lingua) and Raceless (Curse ov Dialect) would drop gems on the regular, sourcing their tunes from all corners of the globe, from Brazil to India, Vietnam to Puerto Rico, even bizarre folk music from the Balkans got blasted. This international mash of sounds rubbed off on me - not only did it perfectly represent Melbourne as the multicultural melting-pot that it is, but it also showed me that there is something universal that links dance music no matter where it has been concocted. This mix represents the world and regional (read: baltimore & southern usa) tunes that have been getting high rotation on my iTunes lately, mixed in with some classic tracks - all mashed up - mostly for fun, but also to breakdown the barriers between genres. Hope you enjoy.
Word to Scatter for representing good music on the regular.
