Zzzzz

I've noticed a couple of supa hot releases seem to have gone under the covers unnoticed (also some have been a bit more noticed but are still dope and need a mention). So here's a post with some hints...

Hijack - Wobble EP
for my liking. The track "No More" is a big sleeper and is like one of my favorite tracks Really fidgety stuff, on the interesting side of it though, it keeps up there and un-minimal enufatm. The squelchy bassline drop is a must! "Trouser Jazz" is also definitely a fun track. Check the Hijack Myspace for some listening.

Curses! - Hungry 4 Love (Vinyl)
This would have to be my favorite Curses! release, and it just seems like it's been overlooked, and not shown as much love as i thought it should have been. The beat just keeps evolving and evolving, and gets heavier and heavier. It's got a driving synth, and hands up motion - definite killer in a big set to a crowd of lovers, something to finish with a bang and some more uses.

Proxy - Decoy
Proxy is another sweet artist that seems all-too-underrated. He's made some killer beats (remember din dah?), and they've gotten some general DJ love, but i don't hear a whole lot about them, and lots of people don't seem to know. Decoy is like a distorted electro song with a bit of a breaky dirtyness feeling. I personally love it's multitude of drops and squeals. It's got a few different synths working in great harmony, that just build on each other for a fresh, different sounding tune.

Dead Sould Brothers - Yeah Yeah Yeah EP
I've hyped Dead Soul Brothers a bit, and they've gotten a bit of love, but still (and especially for a Herve project) they seem to be going relitively unnoticed. I still haven't heard any of there songs being played out (bar by me). I dunno, i spose just releasing it as a double 12" might not have been the greatest marketing ploy for the genre, now days dominated by mp3s and cds, although it did sell out on juno.
Also peep their new remix for of "Without You" Winona.

Acid Jacks vs T-Rek - Mookie (Club Re-Edit)
This became my favorite version of the song. It just seemed to add exactly what the track needed, and made it nice and workable, and now it's workable in my sets. Basically it just feels a lot more cluby, the drums have been cut up, and sound a bit like a slower kuduro beat. The vocals and synth lines have all been cut up some as well.
You should check out Freakshow Disco Productions on beatport in general in fact. Obviously they lie close to my heart cause they the first label to release my tunes, but aside from that there's been a whole lot of stuff coming out on there. T-rek hustlin, hustlin!

Seiji - Funk Mundial #4
Edu K - Gatas Gatas Gatas
aka Man Rec Madness

Ok probably a could more names i hype a whole lot, but it's for good reason. Man Recordings Brings the heat on these ones, and most of their releases to be honest. The Seiji release i saw around, but just not enuf i spose. Great chants and a sick beat.
The Gatas Gatas Gatas thing is probably gonna get a lot more hype, it's only been out a hot minute. Basically with a Chernobyl baile funk remix, a Scottie B ode to "Samir's Theme" bmore remix, and some Crookers crunk, it's hard to be disappointed. (Look out for Edu K on Melbourne shores 14th of December).

Debonair Samir/King Amir - Samir's Theme (Madskills Miami Bass Remix)
Hmm since i just mentioned Samir, I better drop this lil mix that has been way slept on too. Takes a really cool flip on the song (you gotta love those vocal imitations of the horns). It's fun and funky, and although can mean a dip in energy from a pumpin bmore or electro set if not timed right, it's mega dope if it's done correct.

Radiohead - In Rainbows
Ok, this is in no way a slept on release. But it's a dope one at that. This is an album that helped re-iterate that i'm probably never gonna hate a Radiohead related album. It's not perfect or anything, and really i'm still a bit more of a fan of Kid A and Amnesiac, but the album is still really good. (Oh also a Present Script, does track 4, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, remind anyone of Thom Yorkes track off the album of the same name, "The Erasure" a bit, or am i trippin? Maybe they'd just mix kinda nicely together...)
Anyway rather than give you a review, of which i am sure you could find countless amount of anywhere, here's some interesting information gathered from The Guardian...
You know how they were offering the album for people to buy at however much they wanted, well apparently the idea payed off big...
"reports from Britain suggest 1.2 million fans "bought" it from the band's website on its first day of sale" ... "A poll by The Times of 3000 fans who bought the album found the average price paid was £4 (AU$9.20) - about half the usual price of an album on iTunes" ... "n those figures, on the first day alone, the band would have collected more than $10 million, and by cutting out the middle man - the record company - the band will receive every cent of it. If contracted to a record company, the band would have had to sell 10 times that number of physical albums to collect the same profit." They're not actually saying how many they sold tho, or how much they made, but speculation seems to be saying they did good. Speculation also says they apparently have 700,000 orders for the deluxe box set with lots of extras that's like £40.

Juno Download now accepts Pay Pal
Just thought i'd mention it. It was really annoying them only doing credit card. Seems more and more places are coming round to the fold. I spose people could always get a debit card and stop wining, but paypal is good so nuff said.

Anyway, big up the support! Yeh? You down?
