Another Day, Another Hate

Man i'm such a hater these days. Hmm actually i've been a hater for a while, everyone hates, just now days i find it a whole lot harder to get over or ignore. For example, i hate going to shit clubs too much lately. Like the crowd at these places can really get to me, i keep feeling like such a fucken snob, but geezus, some of these crowds are horrible. And man, so many DJs around here fucken suck, like really suck, it's annoying. I'm just like, how the hell do they get jobs, and keep getting them? There's more to DJing than being able to beat match. Everyone can beat-match, especially in genres where every tune is made at the same speed. But you'll go places, and see people just like leave a 6 minute track to play the entire way thru, and then just mix it out, in like the last few bars of the outro. I know there's a time and place for DJs who "don't really mix" or "have great track selection" (not quotes i choose to abide by), but when you go out, to a DJ night, you expect to be entertained by something more than a jukebox.
On top of that, what's with like all these producers and remixers trying to sound exactly the same? Like everyone is using the same plug-ins, and techniques, and going for the same sound. I know Justice are onto a pretty good thing, doesn't mean everyone needs to copy it, i'm actually getting bored of this whole nu-rave and indie electro thing atm, just cause it's totally flooding the market.

Just don't get me wrong on all this hate. There are a fuckload of really fucken awesome people in those categories above. Hell, i write a blog on a few of em. Like i'm totally into all these awesome sounds that are coming out at the moment, and the way music is, just geebus! You have to wade thru so much boring shit. On that note i saw some pretty awful tripple J results. Their unearthed thing seems to be like a bit of a joke too, in a let's give false hope that contestants have a big chance of seeing success, but really just milk them for as much as they're worth and give them shit all in return. That's the vibe i'm getting anyway. Am i completely wrong? The radio station is so often disappointing regardless, trend hoppers of the highest order.
Anyway, i think that's enuf ranting and hating for me. Feel free to leave a comment with your own slant of hate.

Ok so why don't i post some things i don't hate ay? Yeh good idea. Also you might notice i've been posting a whole lot of buy links, and not as many straight MP3 links of some of my favorite artists lately. Basically i figure there's a certain amount of stuff you can post by the same people. There's some artists who blow my mind with every new track they do, so it's my duty to buy there stuff, i mean hell i like them that much, and play them that much. Then there's also artists that just need support too. This whole blog thing is a great idea, i'm all for it obviously. It's a great pathway to new music and thoughts and news. Except there's a line for me. What i don't like is when blogs just completely rape artists dry, and give nothing back. Some don't even cite, or link to the artists at all. So i'm also trying to give as many buy links as possible too now days. Anyway, i'm sure you're getting bored of me talking so god damn righteously, I know i am. On with the beats!
This first song has got a whole lot of hype i know. It even got a video done. But i just can't get enuf of it. Outkast does a nice bit of killing, UGK hits it too. And when that beat kicks in i'm all like ohhhhhhhh! So much of this song is on point, and it goes down perfectly in more situations than you'd think, and everyone starts hugging and bouncing. I'm pretty sure the UGK album still ain't out either, it's due though.

This other lil bit is by Oh No. Everyone knows he's madlib's brother, and everyone know's that family's full of talent. Most i think know that he did stuff for Lootpack, man i used to get down to all this underground hip hop like what! Can't say i listen to as much of it lately. Stones Throw stuff is still pretty much always good though. This track is a cool little thing of Oh No's next release, Dr No's Oxperiment, which you can pre-order thru amazon. I managed to get my hand on the first song, and it's real cool. This album is on the same sorta tip that Madlib's Beat Konducta things. Versions 3-4 can also be pre-ordered. Apparently Oh No has gone on a Turkish, Lebanese, Greek & Italian psyche funk trip for this one, which i can't help but be intrigued by. Check out the example in the way of this song::

I always do these posts don't I, where i hit back to some hip hop, and act all like i'm in the know. I'm not really in the know completely anymore, maybe more than the average bear, but not a whole heap. What i do seem to be pretty well in the know of is all these phat as electro movements, fidget house is a word i like to use on this blog a bit too. Not blog house tho, that term still seems a bit wack to me. My heads still a bit in the ground tho, but seriously does anyone completely keep up with it all and still have a life these days? we can try i spose. I checked out a new blog yesterday, Disturbed Beats, which i found thru Electric Zoo. Both these cats are pretty down on fidget sounds too. Anyway Disturbed Beats had an interview with The Bulgarian, and he gave them this song. A well dope track, just got some real cool sounds too it, i like it.

I might not still be as down with that real hip hop as i used to be. It's mainly the whole, too much crap to wade thru argument again. And also although hip hop is alive and kicking, when people say it's dead they're reffering to the way a few styles of it have totally taken over the mainstream, and flood the market with mediocre crap, and people all rapping about the same stuff. But yeh there's some dope stuff coming out. And i'm getting tempted to try and get some hyphy/crunky/party-hop sets around town again, cause i've got some hot stuff i'd like to play, so maybe i should hit some places up. I just like the way people seem to go nuts for some of these jams, and all the dances people come up with. And i'm getting more into this whole half time thing, that can be mashed up with Juke/Getto-techy stuff and kuduro speed jams. So i'm gonna give two choons to talk about this. First one is by Dude 'n Nem, who i really don't know much about. I've only heard this song. I do know that they're from Chicago (hence the Jukeyness), and there's no surprises there cause that city is on fire for too many reasons. The two dudes who make em up are Trygic and Upmost. Not sure exactly where you can buy the track at the moment. I'd like to know myself.
Also the other track is also a bit of a classic. Hurricane Chris with A Bay Bay. Think there's remixes floating round of this too, but the original is the best so far.

Also i just wanna say that Man Recordings are gearing up for the 4th release in the aweeesome Funk Mundial Series. You can preview the track Todo Mondo by Seiji on their myspace site.
UPDATE: Funk Mundial #4 is due out for digital release August 14th.

and @ turtle, yeh i have gotta get up to sydney and check out some stuff again, didn't check out much in the way of awesome djs last time i was there. and yeh i've heard of dan, keep missing him playing tho, and yeh i know sleater, he's played a gig with me down here, havn't seen him in ages tho, or since he has started saying he's a good dj :p and which kate do you mean?

also @ staystill, yeh that new mia track is pretty dope, it's been around since last year tho i think now, think the beat is by diplo, the turbo version is definately diplo's remix. i think it's gonna come out on her album, not completely sure tho.

you idiot. you should learn to beat match yourself. 'put your hands up for detroit' - isnt it about time to practise what you preach?

scattermish said...

bah, what are ya talking about. my beat matching is fine, apart from the odd incident, which is usually when i'm rushing to hit a mix right. also if you're referring to when i put put your hands up in a mix that was like when i'd only heard the song like once or twice believe it or not, and thought it was kinda cool. now i play the put your hands up for NY remix, cause it's also good, so you can suck it and maybe leave a name next time.

also to the other comments:
yeh kato i know him, still ain't seen him play either actually, so will have to check him out if i head up to sydney or he comes down again.

and hahah, nah i don't think it would be viable on a buisness sense to start throwing too much mud. i don't wanna lose cash to some blog savvy party starters :p
what i will do tho is start up a mix segment from melbourne djs who i think are pretty awesome and keen on the idea. where they do a mix for the blog and talk about it a bit.
step in a positive direction i think

as a fellow Melbourne-er i must agree that i've been disappointed with the standard of djs in clubs i've been to lately.

if you do a post on the good clubs/djs (playing the kinda stuff you do on your radio show) that'd be much appreciated.

hmm, yeh that's a good idea kwink, i'll do a scattermish essential guide or something.
i'll make it good tho, so it might take a wee while.
