scattermish - I Got Tha Bass

/\ARTWORK BY BUFF DISS/\

This is part of the reason that i havn't been making as many posts as usual, along with the fact, that i've got assignments recordings and music to make... Anyway this mix is like my prequel to the ozzie spring...
Alright, well i'm gonna say this is my best mix yet... I probably think that with each mix since they usually include most of my favorite mixes at the time, but this one has a lil more...
I've added my own little bit of spice, as in i've glitched some stuff, i've sampled tiny bits of songs, chopped and re-edited most of the songs with each other, and on top of all that every track is PHAT!
It's another do where i've worked it all out on my turnies, stuck some of it together, then chucked it into my lappy and fucked wit it all, just to give me some more freedom, and to make the mix a bit more complex and layered.

The concept began from me wanting to do two mixes. I wanted to make one that was all about fat bass, because i have to face the fact that what the bass sounds like heavily influences how much i like the song, i just love da bass! Considering it dictates a lot of the way you actually physically feel music, along with how you hear it, how can you ignore it?
I also wanted to do a mix of all this new electro stuff i've been getting into. Cause most of it has some similarities to house music, a word considered blasphemy in my vocabulary for most of my life... and don't get me wrong, it still pretty much is, except i'm not as much of a snob as i used to be. And just because a beat might have some silly house hats is no reason to negate the fact that it might have a serious hip hop flavour (Baltimore bass is a nice example of heavily hip hop influence house music or the other way around). Basically what i'm really about at the moment is HIP HOP & PUNK. And what i mean by that is the feeling and vibe behind that. I believe it was Rick Rubin who said that 'all the music he likes is punk. AC/DC are punk, the Beatles are punk, and hip hop is 'black punk'." Which i reckon is damn fair. Music that says something... not in the terms of it needs to have a politcal stance or an intelligent rap, it can be about bitches and food for all i care, but it needs to speak. And punk is certainly about speaking, and it certainly shoves 'words' down your throat. And well hip hop, it speaks too, need i say rap... but also in terms of how it goes about things. I mean hip hop as a genre is so hard to define, because so much music has a hip hop feel, or influence, or drum, or sample style, or bounce... you can't just say here's the 5 elements and that's hip hop, you can't say this is real hip hop, you can't put hip hop in a box and say here you go, peek inside and see hip hop, it's just not like that. I mean hell, it's a genre with it's roots based in sampling, taking other music retouching it and spitting it out as something completely a'new. But i won't get into too much of a ramble, because i can go on for way too long and just bore myself...

Basically the mix starts off with a lil bass intro, goes all hip hop electro in the form of some chopped up vyle, and then hits some serious bass hyphy style, and just when you start to cruise, it drops you again, with remixes, mash splashes and a shot of coffee. And you won't know what hit you. I've also kept it short and sweet like a couple of recent mixes.
As i said above, the mix does just sample little bits of tracks, and can leave you hangin for a bit more, so what i've done is posted a link to every track in the mix, so long as it was easy enuf for me to browse for and find myself, and on top of that you'll get some purchase links, and website links so you can check out more info on each artist...
If you like the mix i always appreciate comments, and you can always holla at me at myspace

First of all grab the mix, cause most of the fun comes from the way tracks are intertwined... it also seems that some people don't know to just right click the mp3 link (ctrl+click i think for macs) and download the mix to yer hard drive. Also since i don't have a podcast up atm, you'll need to also do this if you wanna then transfer it to yer iPod. but most of yall know all that jazz anyway.
plug: you're missing out if you just grab a couple o tracks and not the mix btw

Tracks listed basically in order of appearance:
1. Mr. Oizo - Bad Start (ALT LINK)
A big part of the french revolution. Some of his older tunes are real hip hoppy, and he's got scratchin in some of his tunes which is real cool. Makes trippy glitched out beats all the time, and also produced the Uffie track Ready To Uff track.

2. vyle. - Machine Gun Crunk (Prod. By Bobmo)
One of my favorites off the I Think Dey Like Hoodtronics... Which has been a damn entertaining mix... vyle. is now doing extra remixes of tracks off the mix tape i think...
I'm not gonna give you this file cause it's the only track off the mix that i havn't been able to find for download, so you'll haveta buy the tape (which is real cheap), when you do i spose you can compare my chopped version, although it ain't too chopped, i've just chucked it thru my MPC.

7. Snoop Dogg, E-40, MC Eiht, Dogg Pound - Candy (ALT LINK)
Snoop's been doing some serial tracks with others lately, i've definately got some refound puppy love goin on. This track is def in my top 10 for one of the best in recent months.

8. Danny Breaks - The Jellyfish (ALT LINK)
The former d'n'b producer really does hip hop so much better. He's obviously a synth freak, and man the amount of his tracks that just have fucken cool sounding machines... i've had this track in my repotoire for ages, and i still ain't bored of it, and it still always goes down well when you drop it.

9. Missy Elliott ft Pharrell - On and On (ALT LINK)
This is probably the track where i actually switched to liking missy, as in kinda appreciating her voice on top of the timbaland beats.

10. Danny Breaks - Duck Rock
A damn fine effort and answer to the jellyfish... i'm still really pissed that the only copy i've found of this has been a warped record, but i'll get it soon.

11. Feadz - Uffie & Me
This track is real dirty, Feadz holdz it down for Ed Banger Records. He also tours as Uffie's DJ.

12. Spank Rock - Chilly Will (Bird Peterson remix) (ALT LINK)
I reckon this could be my favorite spank ro remix. It's done by bird p, who's unsigned and relatively unknown to most bar some hollerboarders. He's been pumpin out some serious remixes lately, this one is still by far my favorite though, respek.

13. Justice vs Simian - Never Be Alone (ALT LINK)
Best version of this song for sure. All these dudes are killin it at the moment. Can't stop won't stop eh oh, eh oh, eh... btw justice, those fuckers, are doin a close to world tour which doesn't include australia, fuck i hate how far away we are sometimes. Check their myspace to see if they'll be near you, because by the looks their parties go off.

Sexy Back, but i think DJs and bloggers are pushing this one through But man the beat of this kills, i can't get enuf, and i like TIs verse too. I even am starting to like the timber singing... some1 kill me, ahh fuck it like i care that i'm in love wit a timberlake song... but this is i think the first, wait no second song after sexy back that i like. I fuck with this quite a bit, in the mix, or at least with the MSS- geek for most significant sample, but yeh it's re-edited.

15. Aphex Twin - Run Jeremy's Window Licker (XXX Lick) (ALT LINK)
Not too drastic of a remix, but it's still everybodies favorite song

16. Aphex Twin - Window Licker (remix) (ALT LINK)
This is aphex remix off his 26 remixes for cash, and it's a damn hot one. It's totally flipped from the first one, and although i can't really ever say that i'll like a remix more than the original of this song (the original has too many conotations and memories), i will say that i like playing it out more. This ends up being a real nice mash piece in the mix.

17. The Futureheads - Worry About It Later (Switch remix) (ALT LINK)
I've finally managed to properly hear a lot of switch remixes, and they're really grabbing me. They're all just catchy as fuck, and real phat like. I'm not too much of a fan of the futureheads from what i've heard, i may need to give em more of a try tho. This song kills it but but.

18. Gwen Stefani Feat Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes & Chingy - Hollaback Girl (rw-remix) (ALT LINK)

19. DJ Tamiel - Robot Club Rock (ALT LINK)
Real cool baltimore remix of Robot Rock from Daft Punk. All about this kinda stuff at the moment. If i stop being lazy, and start making genre specific mixes, i'll do a baltimore one and a baile funk one, in fact i should do a combined one, cause i did get into both of em at similar times. It's Ya DJ Tamiel

20. Fegie - London Bridge (ALT LINK)
Her first and only single away from the Black Eyed Peas... feel free to school me again, but she's also got a full solo album The Dutchess due out Sept 19, my mums bday... I was pretty damn impressed with it though i must say, cool beat, and she doesn't completely piss me off with her vocals, i'm gonna lose some more street cred by saying i don't have the same adhoration that i used to, but i still like the black eyed peas even after they sold out and got fegie to join em, and Latin Girls is one of my favs...

21. Mr. Oizo - Flat Beat (ALT LINK)
I'm getting really bugged out trying to remember when i first heard this... it was off some old school mix that i loved back in the day, i refound this track the other day, and realised it was by Mr. Oizo, and was certainly stunned... grab the beat by itself, cause i don't do it's phatness enuf justice in the mix, so you'll be left teased.
On the subject of mad mixes, check out the latest CWD mix which is really entertaining me atm, especially around the 20min mark where he gets some 80s classics mashed :

23. Tigarah - Money (MR. D Speed Dub remix) (ALT LINK)
Dude this track is so off the hook. Is the track that set me off on the 'i'm gonna make a bass mix.' I did a post about Tigarah the other day, and yeh she keeps growing on me, she deff has her own sounding coolness, another reason to add to the list of millions that proves japan is a cool place

24. Bodyrox - Yeah Yeah D Ramirez remix (ALT LINK)
There's such a great menacing synth line running through this track. Gets me started and ready to jump each time i hear it.

25. Tigarah - Roppongi-Dori (acapella)
This goes too well with the track above, realy hyp lyrics as per uze.

26. Soulwax - NY Excuse (Justice remix) (ALT LINK)
Another killer synth track, gets real loud and in yer face, i've got a big hankering to play this at a play that will recieve it really well, and people start losin it.
Soulwax Myspace - check out the original, big difference

27. Kelis - Milkshake (acapella)
Obviously an old one, she's got a new album out which is pretty cool, but i don't have the same sorta love that i did for the first. I wasn't completely sure if i should add this in, but i just really liked the way some of the parts dropped, so whaddayaknow it's in.
Kelis Myspace

28. M.I.A. - Buck Done Gun (Yes Productions remix) (ALT LINK)
Really phat and glitchy version of this song. I know the original's been way over played, by everyone and myself, but this was a mix based on phatness, and this song is F A T. On top of that this remix hasn't been played by many, and i stand by the fact that when i do play this song it's in some way educational, ie Baile Funk reference or knowledge drop, or remix drop.
M.I.A. Myspace

29. Spank Rock - Sweet Talk (Kalbata remix) (ALT LINK)
I know once again spank ro is way overplayed too, but he fits in the same sector M.I.A does, the whole 'nobody cares cause they're that fucken good' one. I thought i put this track on another mix, but turns out i didn't. I did notice tho that i've got a spank rock song on almost each mix i've done that's posted on this blog... so i should probably stop, but it's just so fucken hard.

30. Charly Greane - Club Bordeaux (s&c)real (ALT LINK)
Another track that yall need to download cause you're totally left hangin with it, i don't even let it start properly... mad beat tho, in a slow but fast way, or summin like that...

nice to see someone giving mr oizo love too - hardly anyone seems to see how crunk and dubstep he was, way back in 1999...
